WE ARE BACK!! YAAAY!
It’s been a long time coming, and things being halted when we had started on the foundation was a real blow.
Picture a building in the process of being built, and the ground has been excavated in readiness for the foundation. Then the process is halted due to unforseen circumstances, the pit remains and rain water accumulates….not a pretty sight.
Nevertheless, we have resumed our competitive season, and while we are still trying to drain the waters and resume construction, we are optimistic about the future.
Before Lockdown II, we had been running with cycling and managed to launch the KR-ITT (Kenyatta Road Individual Time Trial) Series and the Sprint Battle. As far as cycling is concerned, those races are still in the calendar, and we’ve introduced the Mini-Criterium Wars (designed to introduce the crit discipline to youngsters and newbies while allowing the pros to show off, haha!).
You might realise that most (if not all) of our competitions are a sort of “series”, which is intentional. Duo-Bearings Africa is hinged on making sport part and parcel of our lives…..part of our culture. Thus, by creating a series of events, one is able to get into a rhythm and enjoy games for the sake of it. After all, isn’t that what “fun” is?
The gameplan is to host a sport on a monthly basis, and there are points awarded that accumulate during the competitive season (January – September), and those with the highest points are crowned Champions of the Year and Defending Champions the following year.
I admit that it is a bold plan.
I think, though, that one could actually grow through this system.
Look at it this way:
As much as sports is for fun, the competitive aspect pushes one to be better not only than others but also than they already are. After all, isn’t the ultimate competition against ourselves?
The structure of our events makes it possible for one to track their progress over time and look for solutions to improve themselves and their performance. Unlike school, it’s definitely not as dull (haha!).
This year has been rather unpredictable, and we’re still trying to regain our feet. In the next article or two, we’ll post all the dates for our upcoming events, and we hope to see you there!
For now, we’ll be kicking off with the Mini-Crit Wars (cycling competition) on 30th May, followed by the Stroke Volume #1 on 6th June and Soccer tournament on 19th June. Please see attached posters.
We’re also trying to do our part in environment conservation by reducing the use of paper, which is why our registration is done online.
