PREVENTION STRATEGIES: SPORT

I believe that the Kenyan Government has its citizen’s welfare at heart when it orders a second round of lockdown to contain the virus. And who knows? Perhaps it is accurate to say that staying behind locked doors is an efficient way of containing the spread of the virus.

But you know what else is effective? Sport. Physical exercise.

The Pandemic has been around for so long that we seem to have forgotten that there are other illnesses that can just as easily attack the body, even behind closed doors! And the only way to keep them at bay is to prevent them. I think I have asked this question before but here it is: you think an apple a day keeps the doctor away? Try sports.

Think about a car’s battery. In fact, this might be the best analogy. I remember once when I left my phone charging in the car when it was off only to find that the car wouldn’t start afterwards. That was one hell of a scary experience, especially since it was in the evening and everyone else had gone home!

Point is, for as long as the car is running, the battery keeps charging itself, meaning that you can charge your phone without the car going off.

The body is the same. Just because you are suddenly on lockdown doesn’t mean that you get to switch off and laze around. You might need to get jumpstarted, and I can assure you that it’ll not be a pleasant experience…

This is the time to take your sport shoes off the shelf every morning and do a few minutes jog; or maybe take that bike out and do a few laps around the estate; or just walk! Especially since the fuel prices seem to have spiked, it would be a nice idea to get some mileage on those legs, don’t you think? 😉

Interesting fact is that when we are physically active, our immune system is continuously recharging meaning that it is that much harder to fall sick. And who knows? Maybe protect you ultimately from the virus?

I agree, though, that it stinks. It stinks that just when we were waking up, we got put down again.

Personally, I’m grateful that it came just after we’d completed our first kids bike race of the year: the Sprint Battle #1. Here’s the link in case you’re interested :)… https://rightfullyconvictedtolifebehindhandlebars.sport.blog/2021/03/23/sprint-battle-1-the-report/

Your health is important, and it’s vital that you take care of it; make it your priority. Yes, wearing a mask, observing social distance, washing hands are all (personal) measures, but so is physical exercise.

Now, since the 2nd round of lockdown has begun, you probably have more time on your hands to maybe drop a comment or two, or maybe even ask a question. I would definitely love to hear from you!
