
THE ONLY WAY to get to the top of a climb is to keep moving…literally. The legs must keep pedalling, making those pedal revolutions if you want to get there.
Cycling is the one sport where uphills in life are vivid and real! Oh, and also very practical. Unless you live in a really flat neighbourhood, you will encounter climbs and descents. And it won’t matter whether you are a sprinter or a climber; the hill must be climbed.
Funny thing is that in life, we do hit phases where things get real, and the quickest most easiest solution is to quit. That, or to look for another way to avoid that phase.
The main difference between life and cycling is the practicability of the climb. In the latter, you can see the climb, and you know what you have to do if you want to get to the other side, while in the latter, you are not even sure whether it’s a hill or a dead end. In short, you cannot see what you have run into that has suddenly made your progress really slow.
Interesting thing is that getting to the summit from the bottom is very simple: just move from down to up! If a displacement figure were to be sketched, the line would be vertical.
The hidden information, however, is that the path is not as straight forward: you will meet winding roads, some parts steeper-sloping than others, flat sections, punchy sections, etc. Oh, and the scenery as well.
And each hill has one thing in particular that will keep you going: persons to encourage you to keep going. Be they other cyclists or locals, there will always be someone to boost your morale to get to the top.
So, next time you take your bike to ride up a hill, just keep pedalling, and for sure you will summit. Stop pedalling or get off your bike, and you will definitely stop moving, and maybe even threaten to (accidentally) move further down the section you have already climbed.
And in life, when you get to that hilly phase, keep pushing on. It’s just another hill that needs to be climbed, full of people to encourage you to keep moving.
Bottom line: never stop moving as it might just be your undoing.
