I DON’T KNOW about you, but I think that as much as cyclists love their bikes and all, they do also have that one person they cherish above all else.
That is the person who most likely than not motivates them to get on the bike and endure all the pain that comes with it. And maybe for older cyclists, it might not just be one person, but several; together, they form a family.
Check out this letter I once came across:
{My dearest Boo,
Heyy, how’s it going over there? Everything alright? I was sorry to hear about your illness. How are you feeling now?
As for me, I’ve been pretty busy as you can imagine. Cycling is very demanding, and Coach is even more demanding. Like yesterday he woke us up at 0530h to begin the day with a 10-mile jog! The other day he made us ride for 250km in a day, and the last three to arrive were awarded 100 pushups!
Nevertheless, he says that if we keep training as hard and as consistently as we’ve been doing, there’s a high chance some of us will get selected to join the Continental Team. I am so excited! That has been my dream for as long as I can remember. Looks like I’m getting closer to a Major World Tour. So excited!
Not a moment goes by when I haven’t thought about you. Remember the photo we took over the spring? I have stuck a copy of the photograph on my bike’s top bar so that each time I look down, I see you. Each time the hill or the headwind starts getting the better of me, I put my head down and draw strength from your smiling face.
Chérie, I’d climb a thousand hills just to see that smile light up your face. Cycling is damn hard, especially when Coach is pushing me to the limit, but I go through all that for you. I go through all this to contribute to our future together. You are the love of my life, and for as long as I draw breath, I will endure anything for you.
I will be visiting in three month’s time. Until then, you are forever in my thoughts.
Sincerely,
…}
