New to cycling jargon, and therefore wondering what GC stands for?
First, karibu sana, especially if this is your first time to our website. We are all about sports and out to determine whether indeed one cannot make a habit of actively living. 😉
Second, GC stands for General Classification. After each race – in this case the Kenyatta Road Individual Time Trial Series – there are results (published separately), then there is the General Classification that adds up until the end of the Season in June. Riders with maximum points in their respective categories earn the title of Champion of the Year.
The points are given out thus (cumulatively):
10 points – participation
20 points – completing the race
30 points – third place finish
40 points – second place finish
50 – first place finish
Bonus 5 points – punctuality
The idea is for one to consistently gain points over the Season instead of focusing only on one’s performance. After all, consistency builds habits and a lifestyle, right? 😉 And it does quite bring home the point of hard work being more valuable than talent alone. 🙂
